Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
BNS 2023 · 358 Sections
Replaces the Indian Penal Code, 1860 as the substantive criminal law of India. The BNS reorganises and modernises the IPC framework, adding provisions on organised crime, terrorism (now a standalone chapter), and cybercrime. Sedition has been replaced with a broader clause on acts endangering sovereignty and integrity. The BNS retains most IPC offences with revised section numbers.
Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita
BNSS 2023 · 531 Sections
Replaces the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 as the procedural criminal law of India. The BNSS introduces mandatory timelines for trial stages, zero FIR registration, summons and notices via electronic means, compulsory videography of crime scene and search/seizure, and a 90-day period for police investigation before bail becomes available for serious offences.
Companies Act

The primary legislation governing the incorporation, management, and winding up of companies in India. It replaced the Companies Act, 1956 with a modernised framework that introduced one-person companies, class action suits, strengthened corporate governance, and mandatory CSR obligations. The Act is administered by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs through the Registrar of Companies.
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code

A consolidating and amending code that creates a unified framework for insolvency resolution and bankruptcy for companies, partnerships, and individuals in India. It replaced a fragmented regime of over a dozen laws with a creditor-in-control model adjudicated at the NCLT. The IBC introduced the 330-day outer time limit for resolution, the Committee of Creditors, and the resolution professional framework.
Negotiable Instruments Act
NI Act 1881 · 147 Sections
Governs promissory notes, bills of exchange, and cheques in India. Section 138 — the cheque dishonour provision — is among the most litigated provisions in any Indian court, creating criminal liability for dishonoured cheques issued for legally enforceable debts. The 2018 amendments strengthened enforcement by allowing interim compensation and expediting trials.
