The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993

Provides for the constitution of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and State Human Rights Commissions for the protection of human rights in India. The NHRC investigates complaints of violation of human rights by state actors, recommends remedial measures, and can intervene in court proceedings.
