About the Programme

What This Internship Is

The Corpus Juris Legal internship is designed around a single principle: law students learn by doing legal work, not by watching it. From your first week, you will be assigned to a practice group and given research and drafting tasks that contribute directly to live client matters.

Every intern works under the direct supervision of a named associate or partner. Your supervisor is responsible for briefing you on tasks, reviewing your output, and giving you written feedback. This is not a programme where you submit work into a void and hope someone reads it.

The quality of your internship experience depends primarily on the quality of your work. Interns who produce strong research, ask intelligent questions, and take feedback constructively are given progressively more complex tasks. Interns who meet the standard are considered for extension and, where positions are open, for full-time associate roles.

We accept interns across six practice groups on a rolling basis throughout the year. Applications are reviewed within seven business days of receipt. Intake months are January, March, June, August, and October — but exceptional candidates may be accommodated outside these windows.

What You Will Actually Do

  • Conduct primary and secondary legal research on live matters using SCC Online, Manupatra, and primary sources
  • Draft research memoranda, case summaries, and analytical notes for supervising lawyers
  • Assist in the preparation of pleadings, applications, and court filings
  • Attend Delhi High Court, NCLT, or arbitration hearings alongside senior advocates
  • Review and summarise contracts, agreements, and disclosure documents for due diligence exercises
  • Participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions and practice group briefings
  • Receive formal written feedback from your supervisor at the midpoint and close of the internship

What You Will Not Do

This programme does not involve:

  • ×Administrative tasks unrelated to legal work
  • ×Fetching food, arranging travel, or managing calendars
  • ×Unsupervised client communication
  • ×Tasks designed to fill time rather than develop skills

Eligibility

Who Should Apply

The internship is open to students enrolled in any recognised LLB programme — 5-year integrated BA LLB or 3-year LLB — who have completed at least their third year (or third semester in the case of the 3-year programme). There is no bar on institution — we have hosted interns from national law universities, campus law centres, and private law schools.

What we look for is intellectual seriousness, writing ability, and genuine interest in corporate law — not a particular pedigree. Our most productive interns have typically been students who read judgments for interest, who have opinions about recent IBC or DPDP developments, and who approach legal problems with curiosity rather than formula.

Prior internship experience at a law firm is a positive signal but is not required. A strong writing sample will outweigh the absence of prior experience every time.

Minimum Eligibility

  • 3rd year of a 5-year LLB programme, or
  • 3rd semester of a 3-year LLB programme
  • Enrolled at a recognised law school
  • Available full-time for the internship period

Preferred Profile

  • Strong academic record across all semesters
  • Prior moot court or research paper experience
  • Interest in corporate, commercial, or regulatory law
  • Delhi NCR-based or willing to relocate for the duration

Application Requirements

What to Send

01

Curriculum Vitae

Current CV including academic record, relevant coursework, any prior internships, mooting experience, and publications or research papers if any. PDF format, maximum two pages.

02

Legal Writing Sample

One original piece of legal writing — a research memo, academic paper, moot court submission, or analytical essay. Minimum 1,000 words. The writing sample is the most important part of your application. We are evaluating your legal reasoning, structure, and written English — not the topic.

03

Covering Letter

A covering letter of not more than one page explaining why you are applying to Corpus Juris Legal specifically, which practice group you are interested in, and what you hope to learn during the internship. Generic covering letters will not be considered.

04

Academic Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts or mark sheets for all completed semesters. We are looking for consistent academic performance, not a single strong semester.

05

Reference Contact

Details of one academic or professional reference who can speak to your research and writing abilities. References are not contacted without prior notice to you.

Send all documents in a single email to:

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Can I apply for a specific practice group?

Yes — and you should. In your covering letter, indicate which practice group you are most interested in and briefly explain why. Placement decisions are made based on your stated interest, the strength of your writing sample in that area, and the availability of supervisory capacity in that group at the time of your internship.

What is the stipend amount?

The stipend is performance-based and determined at the end of the internship based on the quality of your research output, attendance, and feedback from supervising lawyers. We do not publish a fixed figure. Interns who receive strong evaluations typically receive a stipend that is competitive with Delhi NCR market rates.

Are remote or hybrid internships available?

The internship is primarily in-person at our Connaught Place office. A limited number of hybrid arrangements may be available for interns based outside Delhi NCR, subject to approval. The majority of learning happens in the office — attending court, sitting in on client calls, and working alongside senior lawyers in real time.

Can the internship be extended or lead to a job offer?

Exceptional interns are invited to extend their internship and, where there is a relevant opening, are given priority consideration for associate positions. Several of our current associates were former interns. We do not offer guaranteed conversion — we offer a genuine opportunity to demonstrate your abilities.

I am a 1st or 2nd year student. Can I still apply?

Our formal internship programme is designed for 3rd year and above students who have sufficient legal foundation to contribute meaningfully to live matters. First and second year students are encouraged to apply in their 3rd year. Exceptions may be made for students who can demonstrate exceptional research and writing ability in their application.

How long does the selection process take?

We review applications on a rolling basis. If your application is of interest, you will be contacted within seven business days for a brief interview. The interview is conducted online or in person. Decisions are communicated within five business days of the interview.
